Creating Your Travel Wishlist!

It’s a big world! There are hundreds of places I’d like to go (that I know of), and I’m sure hundreds more that I’ll learn about in the coming years. If the opportunity presents itself, the price looks affordable (and we can figure out where to stash the kids for a few days) we’re mentally ready to go to any of the places on our “wish list” at any time. Here are my favorite links - for browsing and dreaming:
1) National Geographic Travel is always good. I ranked it number one because it is the best one to assist you in finding your "dream destinations" when starting from scratch. It's a travel idea generator! I like it because it's a real magazine with great editors - so it isn't just a collection of ads for advertisers who control content. Also, they sort of lean towards places that are extremely photogenic - which helps. Here is their main link:

TOP TEN LISTS: This is probably my favorite part of the NatGeo site. I can read through these for hours --- and always come out with another awesome location added to my list! Here's that part of the site:

COOL PHOTOGRAPHY RESOURCE! National Geographic has this section called YOURSHOT. You can search photos taken by subscribers, by location. It's an awesome resource to see what kind of pics other travelers are getting - wherever you want to go. You might find some of my shots in there...

2) LONELY PLANET ONLINE. This one gets you much closer to the destination than NatGeo. Once you know where you want to go, Lonely Planet will give you an awesome "Things to see and do" list for that destination. Let's say you started out considering Belize, but then saw a great flight price to Guatemala City --- a few hours away. You would go to Lonely Planet and then search Guatemala. They'll have a killer intro video to Guatemala travel. Then, they'll have a section called TOP EXPERIENCES IN GUATEMALA. This section is the best starting place I've found for most destinations. It outlines the "Can't Miss" stuff every time - and includes good photography. I can play on here for hours at a time (and do - often).

3) OUTSIDE ONLINE. If I'm planning a trip with my buddies - and Teena isn't going - this is one of my favorite resources. On a hectic day, the website itself is almost a little vacation for me! If you're feeling adventurous, and want to see something very few people get to see ---- this is the best place to start:

NOTE: I love the search engine on this site. Just type in the destination you're considering and a bunch of old articles will pop up. I don't subscribe, but I think all the old stuff shows up here anyway.
