The Secret Reason Why Most People Never Find a Great AirFare Deal...

A few weeks ago (late 2019), we booked round-trip flights from our local airport (XNA Northwest Arkansas) to VIENNA, AUSTRIA FOR $314 EACH (round-trip, including insurance). When friends want to know how we’re always able to do that, I try to tell them. There’s no magic formula, magic website, or magical timing that lets one find cheap airfare. There’s one very simple rule to follow - and it applies to everyone: Be ready to go anywhere for your next adventure!
That’s all we do to get awesome fares. We look at ALL of the fares available regularly, then book when we see an amazing deal to any of our hundreds of desired places to go (that matches our schedule, of course). And that’s the secret reason most people don’t get good deals on flights: They always limit themselves to one or two destinations.
Some of you are disappointed right now. Some of you still don’t believe me, and will PM me asking “where do you REALLY find those fares?” Some of you will literally spend YEARS waiting for a cheap airfare to your dream destination, letting hundreds (or even thousands) of awesome fares pass you by to equally awesome destinations. Some of you will message me later this week wanting to know on which day of the week will fares be the cheapest (all days are the same in my experience), asking if you should delete cookies on your computer (I haven’t found it matters a bit), or wondering what dates airlines traditionally run sales (Sale dates seem sporadic - so I look at fares almost every day)? Rather than continuing to answer you one at a time, I wanted to write this quick blog.
If you know you’re guilty of limiting your dream destinations to one or two places, and don’t know how to improve your situation, there’s one simple thing you can do that will help; BROADEN YOUR HORIZONS! The first thing I try to get friends to do is MAKE A DESTINATIONS WISH LIST! Have you ever wanted to go kayaking in British Columbia? Put that on your list. Did you see Gone with the Wind and think Savannah, Georgia would be a place you’d like to visit some day? Add that to your list. Did you see an instagram pic of the Cliffs of Moher in western Ireland that sparked your imagination? Add to your list. Interested in architecture? That should add a few dozen cities to your list. Love wine? That should inspire dozens of amazing destinations to add to your list. Do you love studying history? That can expand your list dramatically before you even look at a map.
Right now (this very minute) there are some incredible airfares from your local airport. We email our members (usually several times a week), and post some on this facebook page, but your own searches on google flights and other places might yield even better results.
There are fares you can book today that are over 50% off and likely much more than that. They might be domestic, or international. They might include weekday departures, or return flights. They might leave before 8 a.m. They might have a 4 hour layover, when 2 would be preferable. They might just be included in a sale one or more of the airlines is having today. I’m looking over the google flights map right now seeing at least a half dozens great prices on places I’d love to visit. My budget and calendar don’t match up with those rates right now - but there are possibilities that are making me think.
So, before you say something like “I can never find good deals on flights” stop yourself. There are good deals on flights to somewhere incredible (from your destination) right now! Check out the recent posts on this page. Get on google flights and start searching. Find a fare you can afford, book the ticket(s), and start planning your adventure!
And if you just don't have time to spend searching every day, sign up for Adventure Fares! It's only $52 a year, and we have Adventure Finders watching fares from your preferred airports every day and night - ready to to send you an email the moment they see something exciting.
